The Council Members and Members of the Foundation for the Foundation for Management Education (FME) are all experienced business people or political leaders.
Many are known as having made a contribution to management education or for their individual expertise in the field or interest in support.
John Wybrew - Chairman
John was Executive Director of British Gas for eight years and then its successor company, National Grid Transco, the major international company specialising in the provision of gas and electricity infrastructure.
He now chairs the Foundation for Management Education as part of a portfolio of interests including chairmanship of a Government-backed Sector Skills Council set up to anticipate and tackle the skills needs of the gas, electricity, water and waste management industries.
John Wybrew sits on the Board of the Energy Regulator, Ofgem. He chairs two newly-established commercial enterprises, one providing infrastructure for new communities, exemplifying best practice in pursuit of greater sustainability. He has also acted as Special Adviser for a House of Lords Sub-Committee inquiry into the security of future gas supplies in the context of proposed EU regulations. John Wybrew also chairs the British Energy Association.
Before joining the Board of British Gas in 1997, John Wybrew had a wide-ranging 30 year career in the international oil and gas industry with the Shell Group. In the late 1970s, he managed Shell / Esso's gas production operations in the Southern North Sea. For 3 years in the mid 1980s, he was seconded to the Prime Minister's Policy Unit as the adviser for energy and transport.
Sir Bob Reid - President
Sir Bob Reid is Chairman of the International Petroleum Exchange of London, a Director of CHC Helicopter Corporation and Intercontinental Exchange Inc. He became Chairman of the FME in September 1986 and retired as Chairman in February 2002. Since May 2003 Sir Bob has retained the role of FME President.
Born in Cupar, Fife, in 1934, Sir Bob graduated in Political Economy and Modern History at St Andrew's University. He joined Shell International Petroleum Company Limited (SIPC) in 1956 and spent much of his career overseas, including posts in Brunei, Nigeria, Thailand and Australia. Sir Bob became a Director of SIPC in London in 1984 and was subsequently Chairman and Chief Executive of Shell UK Limited from April 1985 until September 1990.
Sir Bob became Chairman of the British Railways Board in October 1990. He retired from the Board on 31st March 1995. Sir Bob became Chairman of London Electricity in April 1994 and retired in February 1997. He became Chairman of Council of The Industrial Society in November 1993 and retired in March 1998. He was Chairman of Sears plc from 1995 until January 1999. He became a Director of Bank of Scotland in 1987 becoming Deputy Governor in 1997, retiring in 2004.
Sir Bob was awarded an Honorary Degree as a Doctor of Law from the University of St Andrew's in 1987 and from the University of Aberdeen in the following year. In 1990 he received an Honorary Degree as a Doctor of Science from the University of Salford. In June 1993 he was installed as the first Chancellor of Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, retiring in 2004. Sir Bob was presented with an Honorary Doctorate at Sheffield Hallam University and the South Bank University in November 1995.
Sir Bob received his Knighthood in the 1990 Birthday Honours. He married his wife Joan in 1958 and they have three sons. His main recreational interest is golf.
Mike Jones - Director
Mike was appointed as Director of the Foundation for Management Education in March 2003.
In more recent years, he was Director General of the Association of MBAs, the professional organisation for holders of the MBA degree. During his tenure, he masterminded the quality accreditation service, which assess the quality of this degree at leading International Business Schools and trebled the individual membership across the world.
In semi-retirement, Mike continues to work in a consultancy role within the International business school community. His views on management and business education are widely sought and he is an Advisory Board member at eight of the UK leading Business Schools.
He has held Visiting Teaching Fellowships at both Manchester Business School and Lancaster School of Management and is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Lancaster and an Honorary Vice President of the Sinerghia Institute of Economics in Moscow.
Industrial appointments include two lengthy periods of Personnel Directorships, Consultancy with Price Waterhouse and a five-year spell as Group Management Development Manager of Pilkington Plc and Managing Director of its subsidiary leadership business, Lakeside Training and Development Ltd.
Mike holds a Masters degree in Management and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and their National Examiner in International HRM.
He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Marketors and a Freeman of the City of London.
Married to Christine, a busy medic and with a grown up family - long gone, Mike lives on the Wirral.
